The Lawless Lands
Comic page 11
Back when I lived in the city, I spent many a morning up on the rooftop of our building, there was a metal fire escape ladder that was normally locked, but the bolt it was locked to had a nut on the right side, meaning a guy with an adjustable wrench could easily go up there.

It was great watching the sunrise, and stupid fun to hang out there with friends during new years eve, although always a bit scary knowing the other people were not exactly sober, or used to thinking for themselves even if they weren't drunk.

There is something fascinating about the quietness of the city up high and early, but also this...insignificance of it all. Nothing changes, not in your life, not in the life of others, and there isn't really anything to do, no particular practical reason to walk up those steps - and still, I can't get enough of it.
