The Lawless Lands
Comic page 9
One thing that I feel both Metro and TloU are pulling off incredibly well is the scarcity of ammunition (early on into the games), in a believable way that I always found great and challenging to work with.

However, there is a game that I keep thinking about called "I am Alive" that has come up as my example of extremely good gameplay. Not only did it have believable (and hard!) climbing where you really had to watch your stamina - but it also pulled off the ammunition scarcity better than any game I have played since.

In that game, you had a mechanic wher even without any bullets in your pistol, you could use it to scare approaching enemies, making them THINK you had ammunition left, then quickly closing the distance to hit them with your melee weapon.

To this day, I think that is one of the coolest mechanics in a game I've played, and that game is so ancient that you can barely find any gameplay footage of it on YouTube.

When you think about it, this would quickly become an issue in the real world, and would lead to having good and reliable weapons that would be useless to you, and unpractical to even carry back home. A rifle on your back? That's the difference between being able to climb up a ledge or not, and if you can't find ammo for it anyway, you might as well leave it behind.
